Transportation

The language of the then Lakshanpur village is now Salamnagar, near the Matubhuiyan Bridge on the right side of the Feni-Noakhali road, 8 km away from the Feni town or the Mohipal junction of Feni. Bus fare from Mohipal junction of Dhaka-Chittagong road is only 10 or 15 taka. 80 to 120 taka in CNG powered reserve autorickshaw.

Details

Introduction: Language Martyr Abdus Salam was born in 1925 in Lakshanpur village of Matubhuiyan 
union of Daganbhuiyan upazila which is now Salam Nagar after his name. His father's name is Fazil Mia. 
In 1952, he was working as a peon in the industrial department of the then government of Pakistan in 
Dhaka. During the language movement, he lived in the 36B no. quarter of the Nilkhet Barracks next to 
the Dhaka Medical College. He was shot dead by police during a protest in front of the Dhaka Medical 
College Hostel on February 21, 1952, demanding state recognition of his mother tongue, Bangla. He 
died on 7 April 1952 after undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College for a month and a half. He 
was posthumously awarded the Ekushey Padak in February 2000. In order to preserve the memory of 
Bahasa Shaheed Salam, 'Bahasa Shaheed Abdus Salam Library and Memorial Museum' was established 
in Salamnagar. Every day many people come to see this museum. The book fair is held here in February 
every year.
